Is Charles Darwin's house open to the public?

Yes it is, and it’s a wonderful place to visit. You can see photos from my visit here.

For visiting hours, etc, please consult the official Down House website.

If you’re trying to find your way to Down House, here is a Google Maps aerial photo of the house and gardens (centre of the image). You can then go to the maps view and zoom out to get your bearings.

“…wonderfully droll, witty and entertaining… At their best Carter’s moorland walks and his meandering intellectual talk are part of a single, deeply coherent enterprise: a restless inquiry into the meaning of place and the nature of self.”
