Book review: ‘Wild Hares and Hummingbirds’ by Stephen Moss

The Natural History of an English village.

Wild Hares and HummingbirdsIn Wild Hares and Hummingbirds, Stephen Moss records, on a month-by-month basis throughout a single year, his encounters with nature on or near his local patch on the Somerset Levels. I enjoyed it very much. Harry Brockway's excellent scraperboard illustrations, which appear at the start of each new month, give the book a slightly old-fashioned feel—but I'm all in favour of that.A nice, gentle read.

…wonderful. Science and history and geography and evolution and culture all tangled up in musings while walking about the moors around Hebden Bridge.”—PZ Myers
