The end of a great legacy?

BBC: Wedgwood goes into administration

Iconic china and ceramics firm Waterford Wedgwood has gone into administration after the economic slowdown hit the debt-laden firm.

It’s a shame that this should happen in Darwin Year. The great Wedgwood pottery firm was founded by Charles Darwin’s grandfather, Josiah Wedgwood I. The Darwin-Wedgwood family was very close, with frequent inter-marriages. It was Josiah’s son, Charles Darwin’s uncle, also named Josiah, who convinced Darwin’s father to allow him to travel aboard HMS Beagle

Having said all of that, I have to say, Wedgwood pottery had begun to look decidedly tacky in recent years!
