Country legend Cash dies

Country legend Cash dies (BBC: 12-Sep-03)
Singer Johnny Cash, one of country music's most enduring stars, has died in the US aged 71.

I couldn't let the Man in Black pass away without sharing with you my favourite—indeed my only—Johnny Cash-related snippet of Darwinian trivia. During the famous 1925 Scopes Trial, where teacher John Scopes was prosecuted for teaching evolution in Dayton, Tennessee, USA, one of the original prosecuting lawyers on the case (although he was a good guy, because he wanted to test the legality of the local law that banned the teaching of evolutionary theory) was a gentleman with the unlikely name of Sue Hicks. It was this Hicks who inspired Johnny Cash's famous song, A Boy Named Sue. You see, everything leads to Darwin in the end.
