A sheep farmer in Australia has discovered a fossil of the world's oldest vertebrate - the common ancestor of all animals with a backbone.
It would be a remarkable find indeed if it were the common ancestor of all animals. Far more likely, it will be a close relation of the common ancestor of all animals.
