Swallows feeding their young

I love swallows. Check out if you don't believe me.

This evening, a pair of them were feeding their young on the power-line outside my house, so I took a few photos.

Swallows rock.

  1. I've raised (on my patio eaves) two batches of swallows a season for the past 10 or more years. I assume the same pair comes back yearly or their offspring as they die off. However with this second nesting there are three adults feeding the nest. One is smaller however. Is it possible that one of the young from the first hatch is joining the feeding of the second? This is the first time I've noticed more than two feeding. Anyone out there have info? Bill

  2. we have the same thing going on here in our barn. I think the third brood have just fledged, but like you we seemingly have three adults attending. It has been a fabulous swallow year.
